Police arrest suspect in Texarkana stabbing

TEXARKANA — A suspect in the stabbing death of a Texarkana, Texas, man is in custody, according to police.

Cameron Scott Halliburton, 28, has been arrested on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Jerrod Klein, 27, said Cpl. Kristi Bennett, spokesman for the Texarkana, Ark., Police Department.

Texarkana police responded at 3:30 a.m. Sunday to the 900 block of Linden Avenue, where a Chevrolet Colorado had crashed into a tree. Klein was found dead inside the vehicle.

Klein had been stabbed several times, and the body has been sent to the state Crime Laboratory for autopsy.

Through reviewing video footage obtained from area businesses, investigators established the time the Chevrolet veered off the roadway and were then able to obtain evidence that led to the identification of Halliburton.

Police investigators found Halliburton asleep near a dumpster Sunday night in the 700 block of Main Street.

Investigators interviewed Halliburton, who admitted that he had been with Klein at the time of the accident but didn’t remember what happened.

Halliburton has implicated another person who was with Halliburton and Klein late Saturday evening, but the person provided a verified alibi of his whereabouts during the time of the incident, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
