Authorities in Arkansas investigate after person found dead in burning minivan

Authorities in Arkansas say they are investigating the cause of a fire after a person was found dead Monday in a burning minivan.

Blytheville police officers responded about 3:15 p.m. and found the vehicle burning behind a residence in the 600 block of Lindsey Street, Sgt. John Frazier said.

The vehicle had reportedly been burning for several minutes when officers found it, and authorities could not immediately determine the gender of the body they pulled out of the back seat, Frazier said.

He said it is unclear whether police will treat the death as an accident or a homicide, noting a report from the state medical examiner's office will likely be completed later this week.
