Man jailed after 2 relatives found 'covered in blood' in Arkansas home, sheriff's office says

Authorities say a man is in custody after two of his relatives were found unresponsive and "covered in blood" in their Arkansas home shortly after noon Monday.

In a news release Tuesday, Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts said the male and female victims were found in the bedroom of a residence on U.S. 167, south of Ash Flat.

The two were taken to a nearby hospital, then airlifted to trauma centers in critical condition, Counts said. Their conditions Tuesday were not known.

Sheriff’s deputies later reportedly arrested Mark Shirley, a family member of the victims, in the Lonoke area. On Tuesday, the 36-year-old was being held at Sharp County jail pending formal charges.

The Arkansas State Police is helping with the ongoing investigation, according to the release.
