Elderly aid Maumelle theme

Fundraising events to help senior citizens in Maumelle will take place on the next two Saturdays in Maumelle, sponsored by nonprofit organization Counting on Each Other Inc.

The nonprofit helps fulfill transportation, educational, social and recreational needs for senior citizens, according to a news release.

Maumelle's annual Shred-It event will have a mobile shredding unit available 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday in the Bank of the Ozarks parking lot, 120 Audubon Drive. Volunteers will be on hand to unload materials dropped off for shredding. A donation of $5 per box or bag is requested.

All proceeds from the Shred-It event will go to support the dental health-care needs of eligible senior citizens in Maumelle. Delta Dental awarded Counting on Each Other $10,000 last year to help pay for dental health care for qualifying elderly, according to the news release.

On Oct. 14, the nonprofit will sponsor the Find a Treasure Community Yard Sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jess Odom Community Center gymnasium, 1100 Edgewood Drive.

Admission to the yard sale is free.
