BENTON COUNTY

St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista, 1 St. Bernard Lane, and the United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista, 100 Cooper Road, celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with a joint service at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at St. Bernard. An ecumenical choir, orchestra and bluegrass band will play for the service.

Cave Springs Church of Christ, 476 N. Main St., celebrates its 100th anniversary with a day of Bible study, worship and fellowship from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 5.

First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville, 901 N.E. J St., presents the Clabaugh Lectures to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. David Jensen of Austin (Texas) Presbyterian Theological Seminary, will present two lectures. He will speak on "Why the Past Matters" at 5 p.m. Oct. 22 and "Why the Future Matters" at 7 p.m. Oct. 23.

First Presbyterian Church in Rogers, 1901 S. 26th St., hosts the Leslie Shupe Art School at 10 a.m. each Saturday, today through Nov. 4. Classes for children ages 7 to 12 meet from 10 a.m. to noon. Adult classes meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The school will include classes in acrylics, taught by Joe Lay; watercolor, by Anita Carroll; oil by Debi Ortega; and drawing and pastels by Cindy Shepherd. Cost is $20 for all six sessions, plus supplies.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., hosts the Benton County SALT Council and its Senior Safety Academy on Tuesday. Breakfast is served at 8:30 a.m and lunch at noon, for no cost. Speakers include James Graves, Bella Vista police chief; Jim Graham, pharmacist at Cornerstone Pharmacy; an Elder Care attorney; representatives from the Arkansas attorney general's office; Benton County Sheriff's deputies; and more.

The church plans a family video game night, starting with supper at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 18.

Octoberfest is planned after the 9:30 a.m. service Oct. 29.

The Shepherd's Food Pantry volunteers distribute food from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday. Suggested donations include items to be given for Thanksgiving.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, offers the 40th annual holiday craft bazaar from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Homemade cinnamon and orange rolls will be available for purchase, and lunch will be served after 10:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by the United Methodist Women.

The United Methodist Men serve the semi-annual pancake breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Children younger than 5 eat free.

Congregation Etz Chaim in Bentonville, meeting at Waterway, 4074 S.W. H St., holds a service of welcome and installation for its new spiritual leader, Cantor Samuel B. Radwine, on Friday evening. A Shabbat dinner at 6:30 p.m. precedes the service. There is no charge for the meal, but registration is requested.

Radwine, a native of Taylorville, Ill., was ordained in 1981 at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City. He has served congregations in New Jersey, Connecticut and California. He also served on the faculty of the Academy for Jewish Religion, California, in Los Angeles.

The Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., gather for a sing-a-long with residents of Highlands Healthcare & Rehab at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The church missions committee collects items for "Cleanup Buckets" for storm victims in Texas and Florida. The Martha Garvin Circle of Presbyterian Women collects gently used sweaters and sweatshirts of all sizes, for men, women and children, for distribution through the Salvation Army.

Caudle Avenue Baptist Church in Springdale, 404 Caudle Ave., presents the Elmores in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday. The husband and wife team from West Plains, Mo., have been writing and singing gospel music together for the last 28 years. An offering will be collected for the couple.

Berit Olam Hebraic-Messianic Fellowship in Springdale, 903-D W. Johnson Ave., in connection with the Jewish Christian Studies Center, offers a year-long course on the first five books of the Bible. The course explores the ways Jews and Christians (who share the books) have interpreted key texts over the millennia. The class meets from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, beginning this week.

REGION

Holiday Island Community Church, 188 Stateline Drive, begins a new five-week Bible study at 10 a.m. Friday. The study focuses on Israel's Mission, shot in the Holy Land with Ray Vander Laan.

The church presents Len Mink in concert at 3 p.m. Oct. 21. Mink has been a worship leaders for Kenneth Copeland Ministry for 35 years and serves as host of the "Len and Cathy" daily television show.
