West Memphis routs LR Hall

WEST MEMPHIS -- Quarterback Michael Troxler accounted for four touchdowns, and the West Memphis defense posted its second shutout of the season as the Blue Devils routed Little Rock Hall 54-0.

Troxler threw for three touchdowns and ran for another on a night in which he completed 8 of 12 passes for 149 yards. He also ran for a 12-yard touchdown in the first half.

"I've been rolling out of the pocket too much lately, and there really hasn't been any reason to because our line has given me time to throw," Troxler said. "Tonight I stayed in there."

Two of Troxler's touchdown passes came in the first half as West Memphis (6-0, 3-0 6A-East) ran out to a 38-0 lead at halftime.

After the Blue Devils went ahead 10-0 on a 32-yard field goal by Dylan Wiggington and a 16-yard touchdown by Quincy Marshall, Troxler went to work.

He connected with senior Steven Stone for the first of his three touchdown receptions with 31 seconds to play in the first quarter. The play went for 43 yards.

After a Guren Holmes' touchdown, Troxler ran 12 yards for a touchdown before dialing long distance again with Stone for 53 yards and a touchdown to account for all the scoring in the first half.

Troxler and the Blue Devil first-teamers stayed on the field for the first possession of the second half, and the West Memphis signal caller hit Stone with a 14-yard scoring pass.

Later, Kelvin Love added a touchdown and the Blue Devils defense scored off of a safety.

Little Rock Hall (1-5, 0-3) had minus-48 yards rushing in the first half against the first-team West Memphis defense, and for the half the Warriors had zero net yards in total offense. Only eight of their offensive plays in the first half went for positive yardage.

"The defense played well again all night," West Memphis Coach Billy Elmore said. "But that's the norm for them."
