Blown-tire wreck on state highway kills Arkansas man

A Rector man died Friday evening after a tire blew and the vehicle he was in struck an embankment, according to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police.

Charles Lucus, 58, was a passenger in a 1995 Chevrolet pickup traveling south on Arkansas 62 in Clay County, north of Arkansas 1, according to the report.

Just after 8:30 p.m. a front tire blew, causing the pickup to hit an embankment at a private driveway and overturn, state police said.

Lucus died at the scene of the crash, the report said.

The driver, Joshua Hurte, 34, of Rector, was listed as hurt, but the report did not specify the extent of his injuries.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of the crash, state police said.
