Man dies after tractor-trailer travels off Arkansas highway, into field, police say

A man died when the tractor-trailer he was driving traveled off an Arkansas road, through a fence and into a dry creek bed, police say.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. Saturday as Elbert Floyd Johnson Jr., 44, of Kosciusko, Miss., was traveling west on Arkansas 92 east of Hogan Creek Road in Conway County, according to a report.

At one point, Johnson’s tractor-trailer traveled off the highway and through a fence, authorities said. Police said the undercarriage of the 18-wheeler then hit a dry creek bed as it continued into a field.

The weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash.

Johnson’s death was one of at least 383 recorded so far this year on an Arkansas road, according to preliminary figures.
