Accidents on Arkansas roads kill 4 people

At least four people have died in recent vehicle accidents, Arkansas State Police said.

An Arkansas woman died in a one-car crash Monday after her car hit a culvert and flipped, according to a preliminary report from Arkansas State Police.

Carla Hamilton, 54, of Bradford was traveling east on Arkansas 14 in Jackson County when her car went off the road shortly before 10 a.m, state police said. The 2017 Kia Forte struck a culvert and overturned, reportedly ejecting Hamilton from the vehicle.

Authorities said the wreck happened close to a curve in the road near the community of Macks. At the time of the wreck, conditions were clear and dry, officials said.

A man died when the tractor-trailer he was driving ran off the road, through a fence and into a dry creek bed, police say.

The crash happened about 11 a.m. Saturday as Elbert Floyd Johnson Jr., 44, of Kosciusko, Miss., was traveling west on Arkansas 92 east of Hogan Creek Road in Conway County, according to a report.

At one point, Johnson's tractor-trailer traveled off the highway and through a fence, authorities said. Police said the undercarriage of the 18-wheeler then hit a dry creek bed as it continued into a field.

The weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash, authorities said.

A second person has died of injuries suffered in a crash last week on Interstate 30, according to an updated police report.

The Arkansas State Police said Broc A. Murphy, 51, of Mabelvale was pronounced dead Sunday by a doctor at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock after the Oct. 2 crash in Hot Spring County.

Around 11:45 a.m. that day, Murphy's 2015 Dodge Ram struck a 2013 Honda Pilot driven by 84-year-old Virgil Kelley while changing lanes, the report states.

Police said both vehicles traveled off the interstate, with the Pilot flipping into trees and the Ram striking a tree.

A passenger in the Pilot, 75-year-old Darla Kelley of Benton, also suffered fatal injuries in the crash, State Police previously reported. Virgil Kelley was listed as injured.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described as cloudy and dry.

A 70-year-old man died after his vehicle overturned into a ditch Saturday afternoon, according to a report from Arkansas State Police.

Police said Earl Carr was driving south on Arkansas 187 near the intersection with Butler Road in Carroll County, about 3 miles south of Beaver, when his right rear tire went off the road, sending his 2010 Honda into a ditch shortly after 4:40 p.m.

The man tried to turn back onto the road, police said, but his vehicle overturned and fell back into the ditch.

Carr, from Purcell, Okla., suffered fatal injuries in the wreck, according to the report.
