Authorities: Arkansas woman charged after thwarting police's plans to capture stray cats

An Arkansas woman accused of thwarting police's plans to capture stray cats faces multiple charges, authorities say.

On Thursday, the Ozark Police Department put out three cat traps to catch strays, a common practice in the town. This time, it was in response to a furniture store's complaint.

The next morning, the traps were missing, police said.

Officers reportedly arrested Teresa Putney, 44, of Ozark on Friday on property theft, obstruction of government operations and criminal trespassing charges. She was released after posting a bond of about $3,000 that same day, police said.

A spokesman for the police department said Putney may have been unaware the traps belonged to the city and just didn't want the cats captured.

Putney is known in town for taking dozens of cats into her home, police said.
