A man accused of jumping into Little Rock City Director Doris Wright's moving convertible before it crashed pleaded innocent in district court Tuesday morning.

Brakell Thaddeus Howard, 19, of Little Rock faces one count of aggravated assault, records show. He appeared via telephone from the Pulaski County jail for arraignment.

At his hearing, District Judge Hugh Finkelstein set Howard's bail at $7,500. Howard was also ordered not to have contact with Wright.

Authorities say Howard first slapped a 27-year-old woman across the face in another vehicle in the area of West 15th and South Battery streets Oct. 3 before she and another person inside removed him.

Howard then reportedly ran north on South Battery Street and jumped into Wright's convertible Volkswagen Beetle, according to a police report.

The report states that Wright lost control of her vehicle and as a result it hit a tree and overturned three times before coming to a rest upright in a yard on Battery Street.

Howard was found lying near the crash scene with injuries, and Wright suffered bruising.

Howard's next appearance is set for Dec. 10 in Little Rock District Court.
