Train-SUV crash kills Arkansas man, 67

PARKIN -- A Wynne man died Tuesday when a train struck his SUV at a rural crossing west of Parkin, state police said.

John Aldridge, 67, was killed at 9:09 a.m. when a westbound train hit his 2003 Saturn Vue on Cross County Road 825. Aldridge was traveling south on the road, Cpl. David West of the Arkansas State Police said in his report.

Authorities sent Aldridge's body to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for autopsy.

West noted that conditions were dry and clear at the time of the accident, and that Aldridge appeared to have failed to yield to the train when struck. There are no lights or gates at the crossing.
