'Flute Fantastic!'
Flutist Kayla Copeland will perform Francois Borne's Fantasie Brillante on Themes From Bizet's Carmen with the Little Rock Wind Symphony and conductor Israel Getzov in a concert titled "Flute Fantastic!"at 7:30 p.m. today, Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock. The Mockingbird Quartet -- Susan Antonetti, Kristin Grant, Jennifer Amox and Ginny Hudson -- will perform "Fighting Peacocks," a movement from Eric Ewazen's Harmony in Blue and Gold. 'Woking' the dead
Red Octopus Theater will offer up its latest sketch comedy show, #TheWokeDead, with a Halloween theme but stretching to encompass American political culture and the perils of cheese dip addiction, 8 p.m. today-Saturday at the Public Theatre, 616 Center St., Little Rock. 2nd Friday Art Night
A reception, 5-8 p.m. Friday, marks the opening of "Bret Aaker: Conatus," new assemblages by Aaker exploring "the innate drive of an animate object to continue to exist and enhance itself," in the Loft Gallery, Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, 401 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. 'Potter Science'
The Museum of Discovery, 500 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, is casting a spell of science to turn the museum into Hogwarts for one day for "Harry Potter Science," 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Magical science experiences will include wand making, a potions class, transfigurations, patronus light painting, Sorting Hat demos and photo opportunities. It's included in the regular museum admission: $10; $8 for children 1-12 and and senior citizens, teachers, Little Rock city employees and active and retired military; free for infants younger than 1 and museum members. Chaffee walk
The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program's "Walks Through History" tour, at 11 a.m. Saturday, visits the Camp Chaffee Historic District at Barling, starting at the Mess Hall on Terry Street. The army base, established in 1941, has served as a site for army training and prisoner-of-war and refugee camps. The district includes the Vietnam Veterans Museum and the Chaffee Barbershop Museum, where Elvis Presley got his GI haircut in 1958. The camp has also served as a set for movies, including A Soldier's Story, Biloxi Blues and The Tuskegee Airmen. The tour is co-sponsored by the Chaffee Crossing Historic District and the Arkansas Humanities Council. Admission is free. 'Art to the Rescue'
The Latino Art Project, Puerto Ricans en Arkansas and Argenta Gallery have brought together more than 25 area artists who are donating their work for "Art to the Rescue," a fundraiser benefiting Puerto Ricans in the wake of Hurricane Maria, 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Argenta Gallery, 413 Main St., North Little Rock.
