There are new foods, new rides and an extra day at the State Fair, today-Oct. 22. Admission at the gate is $10, $5 for children and ride bands are $30. Tickets in advance at Walgreens are $7.99, $3.99 for children and $27 for armbands. Fair parking is $10, but free shuttle service is available on weekends from the State Capitol. Gate admission includes general admission to concerts, including headliners Vince Neil, Freddie Jackson, Tracy Lawrence, Ann Wilson of Heart and Coolio, but there are additional costs for premium seating. A shoe factory-owner and a cabaret drag queen strike up a partnership in the musical Kinky Boots, with a score by Cyndi Lauper and script by Harvey Fierstein. Performances of the touring production are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday-Sunday and 2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at Robinson Center Performance Hall, Markham Street and Broadway. Tickets are $28-$77. A beautiful young French widow exploits her shallow 17th-century suitors until a witty and misanthropic traveler from England turns her world upside down (with the help of a couple of well-placed falsehoods) in The School for Lies by David Ives, adapted from Moliere's The Misanthrope, through Oct. 29 at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Sixth and Main streets, Little Rock. Survivors and their supporters will turn downtown Little Rock pink at the annual Race for the Cure on Saturday. The competitive 5K starts at 7:30 a.m. followed by the pre-race ceremony at 7:40, the run/walk at 8 and the 2K family fun run/walk at 8:20. Just in time for Halloween and opening on Friday the 13th, "Boo! Images of the Macabre," explores eerie landscapes, creepy creatures, ghostly figures and other "mysterious intersections of reality and imagination," with a reception, 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Windgate Gallery, Center for Humanities and Arts, at UA-Pulaski Technical College in North Little Rock. Ann Prentice Wagner, the Arkansas Arts Center's drawings curator, will give a gallery talk at 6:30. Barry McVinney, saxophone, and Ron Hall, piano, will provide entertainment.
