1 killed, 1 hurt when tractor-trailer crashes off Arkansas highway

A driver was killed and a passenger hurt Thursday when a tractor-trailer crashed off an Arkansas highway, authorities said.

It happened about 5:45 p.m. on Arkansas 21 about three miles south of Boxley in Newton County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Conditions were said to be clear and dry as Darrell Glen White, 54, of Trinity drove a 2001 Freightliner north on the highway.

According to the report, the truck at one point veered off the pavement and tipped onto its driver side before crashing into an embankment.

White suffered fatal injuries. A passenger, identified as 44-year-old Rhonda Blake Bennett of Trinity, was listed as being hurt, though the report didn't detail the extent of her injuries.

The report also didn't indicate what may have caused the truck to leave the highway.

The death is one of at least 389 in traffic crashes in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
