An Arkansas man pleaded guilty to first-degree battery after his ex-wife suffered a fractured jawbone and skull, possible damage to her eye and several lacerations, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.
After pleading guilty Thursday, Greeley Ryan Phillips, 44, of Springdale will serve a 25-year sentence with three years suspended, according to court documents cited by the newspaper.
Authorities said investigators received different explanations for the injuries, which were sustained in July 2016, including that the victim was run over by a tractor and brush mower, that she fell from a pickup and that she was hit with part of a rotary telephone.
John Snyder, assistant prosecuting attorney, told the newspaper that Phillips was originally charged with attempted capital murder, but it was changed because of the different accounts of what happened.
