Prosecutor appointed to replace Hiland

Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Thursday appointed Lucas Ferguson of Greenbrier as the prosecuting attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit.

Ferguson replaces Cody Hiland, who was sworn in Tuesday as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Ferguson's term expires Dec. 31, 2018.

The 20th Judicial Circuit includes Faulkner, Van Buren and Searcy counties.

"I am delighted to announce Luke as the next prosecuting attorney for Arkansas' 20th Judicial District," Hutchinson said in a prepared statement. "His knowledge of the law coupled with his experience in both the public and private sectors, including his previous experience as deputy prosecuting attorney for the 20th Judicial District, will serve him well in this new role."

Ferguson served previously as a deputy prosecuting attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit. Most recently, he has been employed at the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and Conway Development Corp. as senior vice president-general counsel. He also spent time in the private practice of law in Conway with Hiland, Thomas and Cox PLLC.

Ferguson earned his bachelor of arts degree in Spanish and history from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway and his juris doctorate from the University or Arkansas at Little Rock's W.H. Bowen School of Law.

He is a longtime resident of Faulkner County and resides in Greenbrier with his wife, Jessica.
