American Heart Association’s Festival of Wines raises $150,000

Partygoers who wanted to find a new riesling from Germany or a new zinfandel from California had a chance to sample hundreds of wines at the American Heart Association's Festival of Wines, held Oct. 5 at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. The event filled the ball park's concourse.

Upon arrival, guests were given souvenir wine glasses and plates to hold bites of food from local restaurants. Arkansas Heart Hospital, the presenting sponsor, had three food tables with samples from their cafe, Coby's. They offered seared diver scallops with roasted red pepper pesto, passion fruit crab salad and 72-hour short ribs with cauliflower mash.

A silent auction included several premier items such as a golf cart, a chef's dinner and a beach getaway. Entertainment was by the band B-Flats.

About 1,200 attended, pulling down $150,000 for the Heart Association. Eighty percent of what was raised will stay in central Arkansas and be used for research, education and community efforts, said communication director Rebecca Buerkle.
