SWEET TEA

Sophomore volunteers feted with moms at afternoon affair

American Heart Association Sweethearts and their mothers enjoyed an afternoon together at the annual Mother-Daughter Tea on Oct. 8 at the Heifer International pavilion.

Sweethearts are sophomore girls who sign on for nine months of volunteering, learning about heart health and socializing, all for the sake of promoting the association's mission. Their terms culminate with their presentation at the Heart Ball, scheduled for March 10. Communications director Rebecca Buerkle said 74 girls are participating in the 21st year for the program.

As they arrived, mothers and daughters had their photos taken together and then enjoyed tea and punch while nibbling on scones and skewers of fruit. The women were welcomed to the tea by director Tammy Quick who also introduced the Sweetheart co-chairmen, Melisa Smock Clouette, Dr. Michele Linch and Sandy Bradley.

A highlight of the afternoon was a fashion show featuring clothing from Runway Seven and Dillard's. Former Sweethearts served as models.
