Fire destroys 16 units at central Arkansas apartment complex

An Arkansas fire chief said a blaze destroyed 16 units at an apartment complex Saturday night.

The fire began around 6 p.m. at Queens Manor, a complex just south of Mayflower on Arkansas 365, according to Mayflower Fire Chief Josh Woods.

He said fire departments from Conway, Oak Grove, Cato and Pine Village helped put out the blaze, adding that crews did not leave the scene until around 11 a.m. Sunday.

Woods said no one was injured in the fire. He did not know how many people were displaced.

Adam Bledsoe, a spokesman for the Faulkner County sheriff's office, said Mayflower Elementary School opened its doors to some displaced residents.

The sheriff's office will begin its investigation when the building cools off in a few days, he said.
