An Arkansas deputy says a man attempted to kick and bite an officer, then damaged a patrol vehicle while being taken to the county jail.

According to a report from the Craighead County sheriff’s office, Deputy Daniel Willey was called to assist Brookland police with an arrest near the area of U.S. 49B and Jessica Drive around 12:20 a.m. Saturday.

In the report, Willey wrote that he heard screaming when he arrived, then saw officers walking with a man later identified as Nicholas Wayne Burgess. The 32-year-old attempted to kick and bite an officer and later said he would kill Willey, the report states.

The deputy said that as he transported Burgess to Craighead County jail, the arrestee was “screaming and rolling around in the back seat.” Burgess reportedly began kicking the ceiling at one point.

Authorities put Burgess in a restraining chair when he arrived at the jail, according to the report.

The deputy reported damage to his vehicle’s headliner and interior lights.

On Tuesday, Burgess remained at Craighead County jail. He faces charges that include first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree criminal mischief, according to jail records.
