Fayetteville hosts invasive plant species removal workshop

FAYETTEVILLE -- Residents can learn how to identify and remove invasive plants during a workshop Wednesday at Lake Fayetteville.

The city's Environmental Action Committee and the state's chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council will have an invasive species removal workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 4451 N. Vantage Drive.

Tools and water will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring work gloves and wear long sleeves, pants and sturdy shoes, according to a news release.

Volunteers regularly work with the Parks and Recreation Department to remove invasive species throughout the year. The City Council adopted an ordinance in 2015 prohibiting the planting of 18 types of invasive species in developments that require a landscape plan review and approval from the city's urban foresters.
