Police: Stun gun used on Arkansas man who broke into ex-girlfriend's apartment, beat her

An officer had to use a stun gun on a Arkansas man accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment and beating her after the 24-year-old resisted arrest, police say.

According to a report from the Jonesboro Police Department, Claude Armstrong, 24, went to the victim's residence in the 1100 block Walker Place around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

The 22-year-old, who said she was inside playing cards with a 29-year-old man, told authorities that Armstrong attempted to kick in the door, then climbed into the apartment through a window. When officers arrived, the 24-year-old was covered in blood, beating his ex-girlfriend with both fists, police said.

An officer said he chased Armstrong as he ran out the door, then tackled him to the ground. The 24-year-old shoved the officer to the side, according to the report, and ran until the officer hit him with a stun gun.

The woman suffered lacerations to her face, bruising along her neck and what appeared to be a broken nose, officers wrote in the report.

On the way to the Craighead County jail, police said, Armstrong told them he “lost control” when he saw his ex-girlfriend with another man. He said he believed they were having sex and that the 29-year-old pointed a gun at him.

Armstrong, who is from Jonesboro, was released on $20,000 bail Friday morning, a spokesman for the jail said.

He faces charges that include residential burglary, third-degree domestic battery and first-degree criminal mischief.
