Two Jonesboro dentists donate $30,000 for ASU scholarship

JONESBORO -- Two Jonesboro dentists have donated $30,000 to Arkansas State University Foundation to create a scholarship for a pre-dental student, university officials said Friday.

William Spades and Joseph Spades, both ASU alumni, gave the money for the Spades Family Endowed Scholarship.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to full-time students who have completed at least 30 hours of coursework, maintained a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and are Arkansas residents who demonstrate a financial need. Applicants will also submit a letter of recommendation and a brief biography, according to a news release issued by the university.

Selection of the scholarship recipient will be made by the College of Science and Mathematics Scholarship Committee, the pre-professional adviser for pre-dental students and the Dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics.

"When it's all said and done, it's not about a person's belongings or their accomplishments," Joseph Spades said in the release. "It's about others helping and giving back."
