An Arkansas man received six years in prison after pleading guilty Friday to the 2016 shooting of a man in southeastern Missouri, records show.
According to court records, 30-year-old Josue M. Rivera of Blytheville was charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter in the Aug. 21, 2016, death of Francisco Mendez. Mendez was 37 when he was killed, an obituary states.
A news release from the Kennett Police Department stated that officers responded to a residence about 1 a.m. that day and found Mendez bleeding and unresponsive among a large crowd of people.
Mendez was transported to Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.
Authorities reportedly identified Rivera as a suspect and arrested him in Memphis.
