Teen driver killed when vehicle runs off highway in Arkansas, overturns

An 18-year-old Arkansas woman was killed Tuesday evening when her vehicle ran off a highway and overturned, authorities said.

Shortly before 6:45 p.m., Gabrielle Gates of Black Rock was driving a 2006 Nissan north on U.S. 63 in Lawrence County when she lost control of the vehicle in a curve, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

The Nissan reportedly then overturned off the highway and hit a tree. Gates suffered fatal injuries.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

At least 406 people have died in traffic crashes in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
