Arkansas man charged with murder after victim found bloodied near sports bar

Police were investigating a homicide Friday after a bloodied man was discovered outside an Arkansas sports bar Thursday night.

According to a news release from the El Dorado Police Department, officers arrived at Hotshots Sports Bar and Grill at 601 S. Timberlane Drive in response to a shots fired call just after 9:20 p.m. Thursday.

Officers said they found the victim, later identified as 30-year-old Cory Goodwin of Smackover, lying on the ground with "blood on his body."

Before he died, Goodwin was taken to a nearby hospital, then transferred to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, police said.

Eric Morrison was arrested at the scene and taken to the Union County jail, police said. The Hot Springs resident was initially charged with first-degree battery, but the charge was changed to first-degree murder after officers learned of the victim's death Friday morning.

El Dorado police Capt. Kevin Holt said it remained unclear Friday whether Goodwin died of a gunshot wound. His body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.
