Warriors ride Bowerstock, Burnes

LITTLE ROCK CHRISTIAN 55, MILLS 14

Little Rock Christian rode the passing of quarterback Jackson Bowersock and the running of Ladarius Burnes to a 55-14 victory over Mills on Friday night at Warrior Field.

Little Rock Christian (8-1, 5-1 5A-Central) is headed to becoming the second seed out of the conference thanks to Pulaski Academy's 61-29 victory over Little Rock McClellan on Friday.

Bowersock completed 12 of 29 passes for 221 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Burnes carried 11 times for 128 yards and a touchdown and also caught 2 touchdown passes.

Little Rock Christian Coach Eric Cohu was concerned going into the game with five starters out because of illness.

"There was some kind of bug going [around] so we were missing five starters," he said. "I was really glad the defense came out and played the way they did. We had some guys who hadn't played and they did real well."

The toughest part of the Warriors' schedule is behind them, having squeaked by McClellan 22-19, lost to Pulaski Academy 86-56 and defeating Sylvan Hills in two overtimes in consecutive weeks.

"Every game we have got to treat it like every other game," Cohu said. "We want to keep rolling as we head into the playoffs."

The Warriors picked up two quick first downs on their first drive and faced a second-and-10 at the 24 when Bowersock passed to Burnes for the touchdown.

The Comets (2-7, 1-5) picked up four downs on their initial possession before being stopped on a fourth-and-one at the Warriors 5.

Bowersock passed for a first down before the Warriors were hit with a holding penalty that put them at their own 18. Burnes scored his second touchdown on the next play, going 82 yards up the middle.

Mills came right back, scoring on a long pass when quarterback Taydrean Ford found Zac Smith behind the defense for a 70-yard touchdown.

Little Rock Christian wasn't deterred, starting on the 40 after the kickoff went out of bounds. Four completions from Bowersock ended with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Wagner and a 21-6 lead and the end of the quarter.

The Warriors took over at the Mills 48 after forcing a fourth-down incompletion. Two first downs later and facing a fourth-and-six at the 8, Bowersock again found Burnes for a touchdown, giving them a 28-6 lead.

Mills drove to the Little Rock Christian 16 before fumbling the ball away on second down. The Warriors moved down the field, Bowersock hooking up with Wagner for another touchdown from 16 yards out.

Mills was forced to punt but Bowersock scored on a 6-yard keeper with 29 seconds left in the half.

An interception by Little Rock Christian's William Kerfoot put the ball at the Mills 12 with 13 seconds left in the half. The Warriors scored with three seconds remaining on a 12-yard pass from Bowersock to Alex Clark, giving Little Rock Christian a 49-6 lead at the half.
