Arkansas Index dips 1.95, ends at 342.53

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, fell 1.95 to 342.53 Thursday.

"Equities closed relatively unchanged as strength in the health care sector was offset by weakness in more interest rate sensitive sectors, including financials and telecommunications," said Leon Lants, managing director at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock.

Total volume for the index was 23.8 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
