Five miles of new Interstate 49 lanes to open in Benton County

LOWELL -- Five miles of new lanes on Interstate 49 in Rogers and Lowell is ready to open to traffic.

Beginning at 6 a.m. this morning, the completed inside lanes for northbound and southbound I-49 between Exits 78 and 83 will be open to traffic, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation officials.

Crews will continue to work in the inside shoulders and drivers should use caution in those areas. Traffic will be controlled using traffic barrels and warning signs.

The project is part of ArDOT's Connecting Arkansas Program and included widening five miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from West Monroe Avenue in Lowell to New Hope Road in Rogers. More information on the $38.7 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
