BENTONVILLE -- A Siloam Springs man accused of killing his father will go to trial in February.

Ted Charles Meehan, 31, is charged with capital murder. Prosecutors won't seek the death penalty, so Meehan would be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole if convicted. Meehan pleaded not guilty and is being held in the Benton County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Benton County Circuit Judge Robin Green on Thursday scheduled his trial to begin Feb. 6. A pre-trial hearing is set for Feb. 5.

Erwin Davis, Meehan's attorney, told Green he didn't expect to file any motions before trial. Davis described the case as "a straight up circumstantial case."

Stuart Cearley, chief deputy prosecutor, said Meehan gave a statement to detectives. Meehan, who was arrested Sept. 13, 2016, denied killing his father in interviews with detectives. He described a nightmare he had concerning his father and said he worries he'll be sent to hell, according to court documents.

Tim Meehan, Sr., 55, was found dead in his bedroom in his home at 15554 Airport Road, just east of Siloam Springs, on Dec. 26, 2014. He was shot once in the head.

The coroner estimated Tim Meehan's time of death at 8 p.m. Dec. 25, 2014, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Benton County Sheriff's Office detectives believe Ted Meehan was the only other person at the home when his father was killed, according to court documents.
