Rock blasts to close section of U.S. 70

Rock blasting operations will require a series of 10-minute closures on a section of U.S. 70 in Garland County for two weeks beginning Monday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

To accommodate the work, traffic between Scenic Ridge and Summit Ridge roads will be stopped as a precaution for 10-minute periods between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily through Sept. 22, weather permitting.

Flagging operations will control traffic within the work zone. Motorists should watch for warning signs and safety personnel during the work, the department said.

The agency also recommended motorists consider alternate routes, including U.S. 270, during the $78.5 million project to widen 17.5 miles of U.S. 70 between Interstate 30 in Benton and U.S. 70B in Hot Springs. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2018.
