Woman found dead after Prairie Creek house fire

ROGERS -- The body of a 94-year-old woman was found in the burned ruins of a house at 8720 Haven Drive in the Prairie Creek community east of Rogers, fire officials said.

Betty L. Morris was the only person in the home, said Eric Smith, assistant director of Fire Services at Benton County.

NWA Democrat-Gazette/FLIP PUTTHOFF FATALITY FIRE Firefighters work the scene of a fatality house fire Wednesday morning in the Prairie Creek community east of Rogers. The fire was reported by a neighbor at 3:38 a.m. with flames coming through the roof.

The Rogers Fire Department was dispatched at 3:38 a.m. Wednesday to assist the volunteer fire departments. The fire started sometime during the night. When firefighters arrived, the house was "fully involved and had been burning for some time," Rogers Chief Tom Jenkins said.

The fire burned through the roof and seems to have been most intense at the center of the home, Smith said.

A passer-by on Arkansas 12 reported the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Benton County fire marshal.

Firefighters from Beaver Lake, Rocky Branch and Piney Point departments also worked the fire.
