• Contrary to the popular belief, there is no such thing as an "educated bucking horse," according to a broncho rider. The wild broncho and the untamed outlaw horse "buck" because they resent being ridden. The feel of a saddle has the same effect upon a "bucking broncho" as a red streamer has upon a wild bull in the bullpens of Mexico. The attempt to saddle and ride him is resented. "No one has ever successfully taught a wild horse to buck," Jess Willard, the cowboy world's champion, now the owner and feature of the old Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, is quoted as saying. "As a matter of fact, it's not necessary."

CONWAY -- Six persons were killed early Saturday in a two car collision that cut one of the vehicles in two. A seventh person was hurt seriously. Authorities here said it was the worst accident in Faulkner County history. It happened between 1 and 2 a.m. at an intersection a mile north of Mayflower where state Highway 89 and old U.S. Highway 65 (now state Highway 365) and an exit road from Interstate Route 40 came together.

DARDANELLE -- It appears that murder charges will be dropped against Larry Wallace after he was cleared in two other trials on murder and assault charges. Prosecuting Attorney Steve Kirk of Morrilton (Conway County) said Tuesday night he likely won't try Wallace on a second murder charge. In separate trials this year, juries acquitted Wallace on one murder charge and an assault charge. "There's no chance of getting a conviction," Kirk said of his primary reason for leaning toward dismissing the third case.

• Black-tailed jackrabbits are so common in Texas that hunters can shoot as many as they want on any day of the year. The animal is rare enough in Arkansas that the state Game and Fish Commission wants the public's help to determine if black-tailed jackrabbits still live here. So far, the answer is a definite maybe. The commission has received 10 reports of the oversized rabbits, and employees will try to confirm those reports, said Blake Sasse, a commission wildlife biologist. Missouri has similar concerns about the existence of the black-tailed jackrabbit.
