Authorities say they have begun a homicide investigation after a woman found her nephew’s body in an Arkansas pond Tuesday morning.

Maj. Lafayette Woods, a spokesman for the Jefferson County sheriff’s office, identified the victim as Shawn Miller, 29.

Woods said the body was discovered in a pond in the 3200 block of Wheeler Chapel Road, south of Pine Bluff, around 10:50 a.m.

None of the victim's family members who spoke with authorities knew of anyone who would want to harm Miller, according to the sheriff's office.

“There are certainly more questions than answers right now, but with the help of our state’s medical examiner, our team of investigators are up for the task of determining the cause and manner in which Mr. Miller died,” Woods said.

According to the spokesman, there were no visible injuries to Miller's body. The body will be transported to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for an autopsy.

On Tuesday, investigators combed over Miller's property in search of possible evidence in his killing.

As of that evening, the sheriff’s office had not identified a suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
