Three months after his escape, an inmate who took off while working outside an Arkansas prison has been recaptured, authorities said.
Robert Woodward, 46, was taken into custody just after midnight Monday by the U.S. Marshals Service in Hendersonville, N.C., said Arkansas Department of Correction spokesman Solomon Graves.
Woodward’s family is from North Carolina, Graves said. It was not immediately clear specifically where the inmate was recaptured.
Woodward escaped June 20 while he and other inmates were mowing near a cornfield by the Delta Regional Unit in Dermott, which is about 115 miles southeast of Little Rock, according to a statement.
Authorities said he later made it to a gas station, where he stole a white 2003 Ford F-250 that was hauling a green John Deere tractor.
Records show Woodward was taken to the Delta Regional Unit on April 6 after being sentenced to eight years on a conviction for fleeing.
