2 Arkansans killed in head-on collision between pickup, 18-wheeler; driver in 3rd vehicle hurt

Two Arkansans died and a third man was hurt after one pickup sideswiped another and then drove into an 18-wheeler in Ashley County on Tuesday, state police said.

A 2011 Dodge pickup was heading south on U.S. 425 south of Hamburg around 11:30 a.m., according to an Arkansas State Police report.

The Dodge crossed into the highway's northbound lane and sideswiped a northbound 2017 Ford pickup before it crashed head-on into a 2015 Mack tractor-trailer that was also traveling north, police said.

The Dodge driver, 82-year-old William Ray Cockrell of Rison, and the tractor-trailer's driver, 73-year-old Bobby N. Reep of Monticello, were both killed.

The Ford's driver, 32-year-old Chris Michael Burchell of Bastrop, La., was reportedly injured.

Conditions were said to be clear and dry at the time.

At least 351 people have died in traffic crashes on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary data.
