Woman finds nephew's body in Arkansas pond; 'more questions than answers right now,' lawman says

Authorities have begun a homicide investigation after a woman found her nephew's body Tuesday morning in a pond in Jefferson County.

Maj. Lafayette Woods, a spokesman for the Jefferson County sheriff's office, identified the victim as Shawn Miller, 29.

Woods said the body was discovered in a pond in the 3200 block of Wheeler Chapel Road, south of Pine Bluff, around 10:50 a.m.

None of the victim's family members who spoke with authorities knew of anyone who would want to harm Miller, according to the sheriff's office.

"There are certainly more questions than answers right now, but with the help of our state's medical examiner, our team of investigators are up for the task of determining the cause and manner in which Mr. Miller died," Woods said.

There were no visible injuries to Miller's body, Woods said. His body will be transported to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for autopsy.

Investigators combed Miller's property Tuesday in search of evidence.

The sheriff's office has not identified a suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.
