Microsoft Word Training

BATESVILLE — The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville’s community and technical education department is partnering with Rhonda Byrd to offer a one-day workshop in Microsoft Level 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 222 of the UACCB Main Campus building. Children’s Clinic Glow Ride

BATESVILLE — The third annual Children’s Clinic Glow Ride will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. at the West Magnet Elementary School track. The event is free and open to children of all ages. Bicycles, tricycles, strollers and wagons are allowed on the track. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The Children’s Clinic staff will hand out flashlights, glow necklaces and bracelets, and helmets will be provided while supplies last. Face-painting, music and registration will begin at 7 p.m. After the ride, participants will watch a short safety video. For more information, call (870) 262-2200.

Daylily Society Fall Sale

SEARCY — The White County Daylily Society will have a fall daylily sale from 8 a.m. to noon on the east side of the Court Square. All double fans will cost $5. The sale will take place rain or shine. For more information, call (501) 268-3711.

Oktoberfest

JACKSONVILLE — The Ladies of the Knights and Knights of Columbus Council 11604 will host their 14th annual Oktoberfest at 6:30 p.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Parish Hall, 2403 McArthur Drive. The evening will feature a German dinner, music and dancing. Tickets are $15 per adult. Proceeds from the event will fund the Knights and Ladies charitable organizations. AARP Smart Driver Class

HORSESHOE BEND — An AARP Smart Driver Class will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Horseshoe Bend Public Library, 9 Club Road. Doors will open at 8 a.m. This will be the last class in Horseshoe Bend for 2017. The fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Vietnam War Veterans Meetings

MELBOURNE — The Izard County Veterans Service Office is sponsoring meetings for veterans of the Vietnam War era, all service branches. The group meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon every first and third Thursday in the old Kustom Made Graphics building, 614 Main St., directly across from Mark’s Pharmacy. All are welcome to attend for coffee, talk, pastries and tales. Parking will be in the shopping-center parking lot.

Fine Arts and Craft Sale Booth Spaces

SEARCY — Booth spaces are available for rental for the Creative Art Society’s indoor Fine Arts and Craft Sale, set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at the White County Fairgrounds, 802 Davis Drive. Free Brown-Bag Lunch

CABOT — The Mount Tabor United Methodist Church Women of Cabot serve a free brown-bag lunch at 11 a.m. each Thursday at the church, 4100 Arkansas 89 S. In 2016, this mission of the church served more than 8,600 lunches to the hungry and needy of Cabot.

CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club has regular get-togethers at noon the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Kingpin Sports Grill. Lions serve local communities and protect the planet. Club members provide children with eyeglasses, offer food for seniors and provide assistance during natural disasters. All are invited to the meetings.

Friday Night Bingo

HEBER SPRINGS — Friday Night Bingo takes place each week at the American Legion Hall, 49 Park Road. Doors open at 5:30 for bonanzas, and regular play starts at 6:30. Food is available.

American Legion Post 71 Membership Drive

CABOT — Criswell Robinson American Legion Post 71 is seeking members. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept 28, with a pre-meeting meal at 6 p.m., at 114 First St. All military members and spouses are welcome to attend. The group meets the fourth Thursday of each month. All spouses may join the Auxiliary, and daughters may join the Junior Auxiliary. Any sons of military personnel may join the Sons of American Legion Chapter. For motorcycle riders, there is a chapter of the Legion Riders. There is also a ham radio (STARS) chapter. BATESVILLE — The Independence County Republicans will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Citizens Bank Annex, 285 E. College St. Charles Fuqua will give a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation on how the Federal Reserve Banking system creates the nation’s money supply. Members and friends are welcome.

AARP Drive Smart Course

SEARCY — The PrimeTimes of Unity Health will host an AARP Drive Smart Course from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Hubach Center at Unity Health. Participants are asked to park behind the hospital off Moore Street and take the elevator to the first floor. The instructors are Jerry and Bertie Yates. The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members with an AARP ID card, and $20 for nonmembers. Bring a sweater or jacket, as the room is usually cold. Ozarka College Foundation Golf Tournament

MELBOURNE — The Ozarka College Foundation Golf Tournament, a four-person scramble, will take place Oct. 7 at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Course with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the students of Ozarka College. The entry fee is $300 per team and includes range balls, the golf-cart fee, a light breakfast, lunch, a gift bag and 18 holes of golf. Mulligans will be available for $5 each. Awards will be given for the longest drive, the longest putt and closest to the pin. A car donated by Freedom Ford will be the hole-in-one prize. Paws at the Beach 5K Run/Walk

HEBER SPRINGS — The annual Humane Society’s Paws at the Beach 5K Run/Walk will take place Oct. 7 at Sandy Beach. Race time is 8 a.m., and the course is certified. Diabetic Seminar

MELBOURNE — Ozarka College will host a free diabetic seminar, presented by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service and Baxter Regional Medical Center. The seminar will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11 in the lecture hall of the John E. Miller Education Complex. Attendees will receive free recipes, giveaways and more.
