State road crashes fatal to 3 motorists

Traffic crashes around the state Tuesday and Wednesday left three people dead, the Arkansas State Police reported.

On Wednesday, Bobby Ray Halfacre, 62, was traveling north on Arkansas 11 in Prairie County south of Des Arc about 7:20 a.m. when his 1999 Chevrolet truck crossed the centerline and left the highway, according to a preliminary crash report.

The truck then struck a tree, killing Halfacre, state police reported.

State police also reported that on Tuesday two Arkansans died and a Louisiana man was hurt when a pickup sideswiped another and then crashed head-on into an 18-wheeler in Ashley County.

A 2011 Dodge pickup was traveling south on U.S. 425 south of Hamburg around 11:30 a.m., according to a state police report.

The Dodge crossed into the northbound lane and sideswiped an oncoming 2017 Ford pickup, then crashed head-on into a 2015 Mack tractor-trailer rig, police said.

The Dodge driver, 82-year-old William Ray Cockrell of Rison, and the tractor-trailer rig's driver, 73-year-old Bobby N. Reep of Monticello, were both killed.

The Ford's driver, 32-year-old Chris Michael Burchell of Bastrop, La., was reportedly injured.
