An Arkansas man and woman Friday pled not guilty to drug charges that stemmed from a traffic stop while they were riding a scooter.

Bail was set at $3,500 for 39-year-old Kerri Ann Duff and $6,000 for 55-year-old Blaine Arnold Laxson, according to Vickie Asher, a clerk for Garland County District Court.

The two were charged with possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia after Garland County sheriff's deputy Jon Lane observed them riding together on a blue scooter sometime before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a report cited by the Hot Springs Sentinel-Record.

Duff sat in front of Laxson, who was driving while sitting on the back seat, the paper reported. Neither was wearing eye protection, police said.

Lane pulled over the scooter and discovered Laxson's license was suspended and Duff had a warrant out of Pulaski County.

When the deputy got permission to look under the scooter's seat, he reportedly found a glass pipe concealed by a cigarette pack. Both Duff and Laxson insisted the pipe wasn't theirs, the paper reported.

Lane then ordered Laxson to remove his glove. Inside was a small baggie containing more than 2 grams of suspected meth, police said.

The two were arrested and taken to Garland County jail. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 30.
