Coroner IDs man found dead in river wearing hospital garb

BIRDSBORO, Pa. — A coroner says a man in hospital garb found dead along a Pennsylvania river had left a hospital against the advice of doctors about a week earlier.

The body of 56-year-old Randy Fabian was found still wearing hospital socks and had heart monitor pads stuck to the chest when kayakers saw the body Sept. 16 tangled in branches along the shoreline of the Schuylkill River.

The Berks County coroner identified the body and said Fabian reportedly left Reading Hospital on Sept. 8.

The coroner said results of a Monday autopsy are pending, but it appears Fabian accidentally drowned.

Investigators haven't said how or why they believe he wound up in the river.

Robeson Township police say the body was found near Birdsboro in eastern Pennsylvania.
