Second trial set for Arkansas businessmen accused of vet fraud

A second jury trial for Little Rock businessmen Ross Alan Hope and Mikel C. Kullander was scheduled Friday to begin April 23.

The men were first tried earlier this month on major fraud charges accusing them of falsely obtaining million-dollar construction contracts by claiming their business was headed by a service-disabled veteran. They denied intentionally violating federal regulations. A jury in that case deadlocked, prompting U.S. District Judge Leon Holmes to declare a mistrial.

A retrial was tentatively set for mid-October, but Holmes granted a request to delay the retrial until April after attorneys reported conflicts in their schedules with the October trial date.

Hope owns Powers of Arkansas, a commercial heating and air company, and Kullander owns Kullander Construction.
