A 29-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder Saturday after human remains were discovered in Pope County, authorities said.

Deputies found the remains near the tree line of a wooded area behind a home on Gold Hill road, according to a statement on the Pope County sheriff's office Facebook page.

Daniel Joseph Hoffman, 29, was interviewed by investigators and charged in the death, according to the statement.

The remains were being sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for identification, and no other information was available pending the notification of next of kin, the statement said.
