A man chased down a burglar after the intruder broke into his girlfriend's apartment Friday night, according to a report from North Little Rock police.

The woman told investigators she was taking a bath inside her apartment on East 19th Street when she saw a person standing in the bathroom doorway. Realizing the man was not her boyfriend, she began to scream for help, the report said.

The intruder — identified by police as 31-year-old Jamel Reshawn Paris — ran out the back door with the woman’s cellphone, police said. The boyfriend then gave chase and tackled Paris, holding him on the ground until officers arrived a short time later, according to the report.

After being arrested on a burglary charge, Paris told officers he "knew it was wrong to enter the apartment and take the phones," the report said, noting Paris also said he was on probation for a 2014 burglary.

Paris was being held in the Pulaski County jail on Monday in lieu of $10,000 bond.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
