Those of us who use butter know the angst of trying to spread cold butter on a slice of soft bread. It's a lesson in futility.
Enter Joelle Mertzel, a die-hard refrigerate-the-butter kind of gal. While visiting a friend's home she noticed her friend's butter was kept in a covered dish on the counter. Mertzel then started leaving hers out, but she became frustrated when dealing with the lid, which usually gets slippery, making it very easy to drop on the counter or back into the butter.
That simple yet irritating problem led Mertzel to invent the Butterie, a less messy butter dish that features an attached flip top that snaps off for easy cleaning. In addition to the attached lid, what makes the Butterie unique is it is wide enough to hold two sticks of American butter or one block of European butter. It's made of BPA-free plastic and includes a matching spreader.
