A man has been arrested in a break-in at a Little Rock school after running back inside the building in an attempt to evade police, according to authorities.

Officers responded around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday to a burglar alarm at Cloverdale Magnet Middle School, 6300 Hinkson Road, a Little Rock Police Department report states.

At the scene, officers reportedly found two people exiting the building on its northeast side, at which point they ordered them to stop.

One burglar, identified by authorities as 21-year-old Xavier Canady of Little Rock, ran back inside the building, the report states. Canady was arrested after he later walked out on the school’s west side.

Police said the accomplice ran north toward Spring Valley apartments at 8701 Interstate 30 and had not been found at the time of the report.

Listed as stolen from the middle school was a dark-colored backpack valued at $50. According to an arrest report, Canady told authorities that his accomplice took the item.

Officers noted that there were no signs of forced entry at the school.

Canady remained at the Pulaski County jail as of Wednesday morning, records show. Bail had not been set.
