Gunfire at Little Rock gas station investigated, police say

Police say they responded late Thursday to gunfire at a Little Rock convenience store after multiple people showed up and shot at someone parked outside.

Officers with the Little Rock Police Department heard shots fired at Zimmerman’s Exxon, 5223 S. University Ave., as they were driving nearby around 11:15 p.m., according to a report.

At the scene, authorities stopped a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu as its driver attempted to leave the gas station’s parking lot, police said.

The driver, 22-year-old Shaquille Galmore of Little Rock, was held in a patrol vehicle, but a passenger in the Malibu fled, the report states.

Galmore told officers that one of the reported assailants jumped through an open passenger-side window into his vehicle as he tried to drive away from the shooting.

One witness, a 41-year-old woman, reported seeing up to four people drive up to the gas station in several vehicles as a black male was speaking with her from inside a black Chevrolet Tahoe.

The group got out of their vehicles and started shooting at the black male, who then quickly drove away as his vehicle was being shot up, according to authorities.

Witnesses said Galmore had nothing to do with the shooting.

Inside the Chevrolet that Galmore was driving, police found a gun as well as a bag containing marijuana, digital scales and two cellphones, the report said. The weapon was listed as stolen out of Cabot.

Those items were left behind in the car by the assailant who jumped inside, Galmore said.

Galmore was arrested on active warrants out of Little Rock and was transported to the Pulaski County jail, according to an arrest report. He remained jailed as of Friday morning on charges of fraudulent use of a credit card and theft by receiving.
