Packers' Adams at home

Green Bay receiver Davante Adams tweeted Friday that he was at home and "feeling great" a day after taking a frightening hit from Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan. Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher with about 4 minutes left in the third quarter on Thursday night after getting hit in the head during a tackle by Trevathan. The game was delayed for about 5 minutes while medical personnel tended to Adams. He gave a thumbs-up signal as he was wheeled off the field. The Packers said he was conscious and taken to a hospital for evaluation for possible head and neck injuries, and that he had feeling in all of his extremities. Trevathan was called for an unnecessary roughness penalty following Adams' 8-yard catch but was not ejected, and any potential fine will not come to light until next week. Green Bay won the game 35-14.

Raiders WR misses practice

The Oakland Raiders may be without leading receiver Michael Crabtree against Denver after he missed practice Friday because of the lingering effects of a chest injury he suffered during the team's loss to Washington. Crabtree had been limited earlier in the week but was held out of the Raiders' final workout before the team flies to Colorado and is listed as questionable. Coach Jack Del Rio declined to say whether Crabtree had suffered a setback and said a decision may not be made until Sunday. Crabtree has 13 catches for 170 yards and a team-high 3 touchdowns through 3 games, but is coming off his worst performance of the season when he and Amari Cooper were each held to 1 catch in the Raiders' 27-10 loss to the Redskins last week.

Cards' guard faces surgery

Arizona Cardinals Coach Bruce Arians said starting left guard Mike Iupati will have to undergo surgery to remove a bone spur in his triceps area and is expected to be sidelined at least eight weeks. Arians said Iupati has been trying to play through the injury but the spur has broken off and is cutting into a tendon. The coach said it needs to be repaired before the tendon is cut in half. Arians also said defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche will miss Sunday's game with San Francisco after reinjuring a calf in practice on Thursday.

Falcons missing 4 starters

The unbeaten Atlanta Falcons will be without four starters when they host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Safety Ricardo Allen will miss the game with a concussion sustained on a hard hit to Detroit receiver T.J. Jones last week. Outside linebacker Vic Beasley Jr. (hamstring), right tackle Ryan Schraeder (concussion) and defensive lineman Courtney Upshaw (ankle/knee) will all miss their second consecutive games with injuries sustained against Green Bay in Week 2. The Falcons also will be without backup running back Terron Ward (neck/shoulder).

Top pick's debut on hold

Myles Garrett's injured ankle is much stronger, but his playing status remains shaky. Cleveland's rookie defensive end -- and the NFL's top draft pick -- practiced for the second consecutive day Friday, but remained questionable to make his regular-season debut Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Garrett has missed the Browns' first three games with a severely sprained right ankle suffered in practice on Sept. 6. He's made major progress and returned to the field Thursday. However, he still may be a week away from playing in a game. Coach Hue Jackson met with the team's medical staff following practice, and while he didn't rule the 21-year-old out this week, the Browns will likely remain ultra-cautious with Garrett and let him rest another week. The team is eager to see Garrett rushing the quarterback, but they won't jeopardize him being out for an extended period by rushing him back less than a month after he got hurt. Typically high ankle sprains take up to at least one month to heal.

U.S. grabs advantage

Phil Mickelson rolled in a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to cap off another big day for the Americans in the Presidents Cup. The Americans won four of the five matches in fourballs, and headed into the weekend with an 8-2 lead over the International team. It was the largest lead after two sessions since the Presidents Cup began in 1994. The shortest match belonged to a pair of American rookies, Kevin Chappell and Charley Hoffman, who won in 13 holes. The Americans already are 7 1/2 points away from winning.

Mackanin out as manager

Pete Mackanin got a contract extension when the Philadelphia Phillies were scuffling and lost his job after they turned it around. Mackanin is out as manager after 2½ seasons but will remain in the dugout for the final three games this weekend and return as a special assistant to General Manager Matt Klentak in 2018. "I'm disappointed, surely," Mackanin said Friday. "But I understand it and I'm happy to be part of it down the road. I believe in Matt Klentak and I believe in what he's doing and the fact that he wants me to continue in this (new) capacity is the most important thing." The Phillies are 64-95 this season, last in the NL East and with the second-worst record in the league. Philadelphia has not been to the postseason since 2011. The 66-year-old Mackanin succeeded Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg on June 26, 2015. His record with Philadelphia is 172-237.

Mariners pitcher sidelined

Mariners right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma has undergone right shoulder surgery that will keep him from throwing for about five months. The Mariners announced Iwakuma's surgery on Friday. The shoulder debridement was done on Wednesday in Dallas by Dr. Keith Meister. He could resume throwing in late February or early March. Iwakuma had a contract option for the 2018 season, but needed to pitch a specific amount of innings for the contract to vest. His injury ended that chance and he is expected to be a free agent after the season. The 36-year-old Iwakuma had a frustrating injury-filled 2017 season. He made just six starts and was 0-2 with a 4.35 ERA. He landed on the disabled list on May 10 with shoulder troubles and never made it back to the roster.

Hawks' guard arrested

After saying he needed to be more of a leader on a rebuilding team, Atlanta Hawks guard Dennis Schroder was arrested on misdemeanor battery charges Friday in Atlanta for a fight outside a late-night restaurant. Brookhaven police reported that Schroder and three other men were charged in the altercation, which occurred around 2 a.m. Friday at the restaurant. The fight had broken up when police arrived, but a review of video from the scene led to the charges. According to a police report, the video showed a total of seven people, including alleged victim Joey Hall and a security officer, involved in "what appeared to be a verbal heated exchange." The report said Hall sustained scratches to his right knee and complained of right ankle pain before he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Schroder, 24, is the top returning scorer on the Hawks, averaging 17.9 points and 6.3 assists per game in his first season as a full-time starter.

Thunder star Westbrook signs extension

OKLAHOMA CITY — Russell Westbrook is staying with the Thunder.

The superstar point guard and reigning NBA MVP has signed a contract extension to remain in Oklahoma City, the team announced Friday. ESPN first reported the agreement and said it would be for five years and worth $205 million.

Westbrook made an Instagram post Friday afternoon, a photo of him yelling at Chesapeake Energy Arena with his raised fist in the air. His words of choice to go with the photo are the words he lives by and the name of his charitable foundation: “WHY NOT??”

Westbrook said this week that Oklahoma City is where he wanted to be. He said he was thrilled with the offseason additions of four-time All-Star Paul George and 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony. Both have player options on their deals after this season.

“I love being here,” he said. “I’m excited about the season. Obviously, with a lot of new changes, and I’m excited.”

Thunder owner Clay Bennett values Westbrook’s importance to Oklahoma City on and off the court.

“We recognize and deeply appreciate Russell’s rare and unique abilities as he leads the Oklahoma City Thunder, but also understand his presence and impact on our community will be felt for decades to come,” Bennett said. “On behalf of the entire Thunder organization, our ownership group and all of Oklahoma, I want to express my deepest appreciation to Russell, and I know that the very best days for the Thunder are yet to come.”

Westbrook averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game last season.

His success increased anxiety for Thunder fans who feared he might leave, as Kevin Durant did during the summer of 2016 when he chose to join the Golden State Warriors. Westbrook signed the extension on Durant’s 29th birthday.

Westbrook said he hadn’t signed because of other obligations.

“I’ve been at home,” he said. “I’ve been traveling. Just trying to get my family together, honestly. You know, having a new son can be a little difficult, you know what I mean? I’ve been trying to help my wife, help my family and enjoying and embracing that moment as much as I can because I know during the season, I’m going to be traveling and moving around.”
