FAYETTEVILLE -- The University of Arkansas Glee Club will make its annual tour of the state about the middle of April. The club, somewhat smaller than usual, will make the towns in the southern part of the state as it made the northern towns last year. Arrangements have been made with the following towns for engagements: Eureka Springs, Paragould, Pine Bluff, Fordyce, El Dorado, Camden, and Hope.

NEWPORT -- Three boys drowned Saturday in a slough adjoining the White River about a mile south of here, Jackson County Sheriff Ralph Henderson said. Their bodies were found Sunday. Dead are Bobby Emery, 13, and his brother, Hank, 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Emery of Diaz (Jackson County), and Fredde Dwayne Smith, 11, son of Willie Lon Smith of Melbourne and Mrs. Jammie Clark Smith of near Newport.

MALVERN -- Reports from an internal investigation by the Malvern Police Department alleging that nine police officers misappropriated federal funds have been turned over to the 7th Judicial District prosecuting attorney's office for review. The investigation involves allegations that the officers, who had contracted to work off-duty for the Malvern Housing Authority, at times would be on duty for the city while claiming to be on the payroll of the housing authority at the same time, Malvern Police Chief Richard Taft said Wednesday.

• Attorneys for a man accused of raping and killing a teenager and dumping her body in the trash failed Monday to show that he is too delusional to stand trial. In rejecting the claims, Pulaski County Circuit Judge John Langston found Ramon Williamson, 42, competent to face a jury on a capital murder charge in the slaying of 18-year-old Madeline Jaffe, whose body was found in a trash bin behind a car lot on Lancaster Road in southwest Little Rock in August 2005. Langston capped a five-hour hearing Monday with about 70 minutes of deliberations in chambers before reaching his decision. Williamson's attorneys had wanted the judge to order him committed to the State Hospital to be treated until he was well enough to stand trial.
